LAND {CULTURE} CLIMATE

Picture

Pegi Eyers co-hosted the project LAND {CULTURE} CLIMATE with Youth Passageways in 2019, a webinar series that grew out of an initial call to discuss rites of passage in the era of climate change. LAND {CULTURE} CLIMATE became a process whereby participants explored the inner and outer territories of our changing landscapes, and engaged with questions that drew culture, initiation and climate change/emergency together. Determining the values that our culture both uplifts and undermines assists us in the work of initiation, and informs the passageways we undergo or facilitate to foster solidarity, sovereignty, and interdependence with the more-than-human world and each other.  Pegi Eyers is currently serving on the Advisory Council for Youth Passageways.

On Sunday April 28, 2019 Pegi Eyers appeared at Roots of Activism, an Afternoon of Revolutionary Film Education and Environmental Activism with her book Ancient Spirit Rising in Toronto.  This successful event was hosted by environmental activist Rachel Parent, founder of Gen-Earth and Kids Right to Know.  To keep  his legacy alive, Rob Stewart's award-winning film REVOLUTION was screened, followed by an engaging conversation with his parents Sandy and Brian Stewart, the producers of Shark Water Extinction. Panels of leading visionaries and youth activists dialogued on the spirit of activism, food safety and climate change. Held at the Centre for Social Innovation in the Annex in Toronto, Roots of Activism was an amazing opportunity to connect and exchange with like-minded changemakers interested in the protection of nature’s diversity, #oceanacidification, #deforestation, #overfishing, and #climatechange, and to learn about eco-organizations, activists and authors!

Our mission is to inform and enlighten attendees about the many ways our generation is working to change the approach to viewing and interacting with the natural world. Through hands-on workshops, poster presentations and various exhibits, we inspire attendees to implement truly 'green' solutions in their everyday lives. With an Indigenous infused perspective, our conference aims to motivate students, colleagues, and community members to view our relationship with Planet Earth in new ways, and to become agents of change across social, political, and economic boundaries, both at home and around the globe.
