This is Little Spirit. She is the most adorable little Snapping Turtle you could ever possibly imagine-!!! I had the privilege of rescuing her from a bad situation and relocating her to a beautiful safe place, still in her own ecosystem. She was in a laneway at the top of a dangerous hill, and some millennials were poking at her with umbrellas and sticks.
Like an avenging goddess parting the waters, I took immediate charge of the situation and picked her right up, in the proper way, with no danger and full respect. Turtles are one of the cosmic forces in nature that open the heart - if this is a revelation to you, please pay attention!!! I spoke kindly and softly to this beautiful darling and she immediately relaxed, looking up at me with curiosity in her bright little eyes. We went on a short journey together, in perfect peace and trust, and I wish I could have stayed with her forever.
But alas, Little Spirit is a creature of the wild, not a pet, and she must make her own way, and survive and thrive. Her new home may give her that opportunity, to live a long and productive life, giving birth to many little ones along the way. This is my hope and dream for her, as she settles into her new watershed. As I look out over her place, so perfect for many generations of Turtles, I feel her presence as the living numina of the land.
Snapping Turtles outlive human beings, and carry powerful wisdom and magic. BE CAREFUL on the roads out there. Even stop the traffic in both directions if you have to!! Who cares what uninformed people think - human life is NOT more important than the astounding creatures we share this planet with.
