IN CONVERSATION WITH PEGI EYERS
Shamanic Cacao Medicine Music
Why Stop Cultural Appropriation to Connect Deeper with Your Ancestors?
Shamanic work, cacao ritual, medicine music, mantra, yoga, and aho! - the spiritual scene (New Age scene) is full of offers and expressions that are culturally appropriating. What is an authentic spirituality in harmony with our ancestors? In this eye-opening conversation, social activist, author and artist Pegi Eyers shares with us:
What cultural appropriation is, why is it harmful and probably the opposite of what people on the spiritual path intend, what alternatives could be, and how to restore healthy culture, why is it so wonderful to connect deeper with your ancestors and ways to find your authentic spirituality. "With many practical examples and questions from my life, such as the meaning of the word "shaman," singing songs from other cultures, using expressions such as "the old man's heart," and how to speak up when witnessing cultural appropriation. Speaking with Pegi has given me a lot of hope, and curiosity to connect deeper with my ancestors. At the same time, learning more about cultural appropriation has really shaken me, and stirred up uncomfortable feelings of shame, guilt and grief. So be prepared if those feelings arise for you too. It is part of the process! Please reach out to me whenever you feel like sharing something, let me know what you are taking from this conversation and what it inspires in you and what questions arise." Much love, Amelie LISTEN >HERE< |

"Navigate your ancestral lineage with Pegi Eyers. Is it ever appropriate to join ceremonies that don’t belong to us? Pegi Eyers argues that there’s a difference between being invited, and inviting ourselves. This is an important one for those of us in the spiritual community, particularly white practitioners and healers. And this isn’t a call-out; it’s a calling-in. This episode is all about inviting our fellow white people to the table to take an honest look at the ways we show up in the world–– and the ways we need to do better. Our guest, Pegi Eyers, shares insights into what white supremacy looks like, how to combat it, and practices to put into your everyday life to get grounded and more connected to humanity as a whole. Pegi Eyers is the author of Ancient Spirit Rising: Reclaiming Your Roots & Restoring Earth Community, a book that received a 2017 Next Generation Indie Book Award in the Current Events/Social Change category. Her work focuses on challenging worldview that prevent social evolution, and providing healing practices so that we may move forward toward true equality."

In her new book Ancient Spirit Rising Pegi Eyers examines the loss of our vital ethnocultural connection to tribe and place, and why there is a trend to borrow identities from other cultures. Join us for a provocative and informative discussion on white privilege, cultural appropriation, and how modern spirituality has become a giant consumer marketplace! Pegi’s research has uncovered improved strategies for intercultural competency with Turtle Island First Nations through social justice solidarity, anti-oppression work, allyship and reconciliation. And as the paradigm shifts today to earth-connected sustainable community, in a fascinating twist Ancient Spirit Rising re-frames the Pagan and Goddess Spirituality movements as a response to the directive from Indigenous Elders to recover our own ancestral wisdom. From the wealth of resources available today, we can restore our ecocentric worldview and find an authentic self-identity from our own heritage in Old Europe, using the timeless values of indigenous mind as our model. Come back to your roots!
