Is it Universalism – or is it White Privilege?
Join Pegi Eyers, author of “Ancient Spirit Rising” as we take a new look at spiritual paths we have normalized, in today’s polyglot world of religious expression. Many of the practices we take for granted have only been made possible by white privilege, and in recent decades, by an unfortunate breach of cultural boundaries. Do members of the dominant society – white people – really need to make Kemetism, vodun, hoodoo, curanderismo, ayahuasca, shamanism, yoga and even Buddhism our own, and bypass the treasures in our own ethnocultures?
Destructive forces such as colonialism, capitalism, globalization and homogeneity have made it appear that religions and spiritualities are “universal” but this is not necessarily so. The dynamic of “my teacher” also needs to be interrogated, as BIPOC are not a monolith, and not all agree with the sharing of their spiritual traditions. Once we understand the truth of our own positionality and the oppressor-oppressed dynamic, we are able to embrace spiritualities that do not harm other cultures. Often only minor changes or small adjustments to the terminology of our practice is required, or we may have to abandon our work entirely and begin anew. In an era of hopeful spiritual recovery for all people decimated by Empire, white folks can choose to make space, and refrain from placing ourselves at the center. Join empath and activist Pegi for a discussion in a kind and caring atmosphere, as these themes can be uncomfortable as awareness dawns. By respecting the spirituality of all people, we will find our most authentic soul expression, and truly come together in our “Unity in Diversity!” OPENING OUR HEARTS TO THE WORLD COMPASSION IN ACTION |

"Hearing the Invisible: Lessons from Sentient Beings and Inter-relational Ecosystems” is presented by the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology (ASWM). Our 2022 biennial Symposium focuses on meanings found in the relational reality among science, culture, and mythology in regard to animals, the green world, and ecosystems. With our primary focus on interconnectedness, we feature academic and artistic work that addresses collaborations between humans and other sentient beings, foundational myths about earth’s response to misuse, and scientific solutions to transgressions against the balance of nature. |
The Life Force: Restoring Sacred Myth
Mythologium 2021 Welcomes Pegi Eyers
2021 PRESENTERS ~ PEGI EYERS
Our era calls out for a renewed recognition of the force that not only animates life, but is the spark itself: the essence that causes the seed to sprout season after season, and new beings to originate, germinate, or be born. In a world of materialism, and with the commodification of all that is alive and sentient, our society has come to take this spark for granted. But in times of looming extinction, a more grounded analysis is needed. How can we align with the “green fuse”? How have cultures across time and space paid tribute to the essence of life in perennial myths redolent with renewal and beauty? |
Delving into mythologies both old and new will bring the originator force–the green mystery–back to the forefront of our consciousness where it belongs. Against all odds, the driver for the life spark continues to arise in Earth Community–including human fertility–even as Empire attacks and decimates the natural world. Through millennia, rising and fading away, the foundation of our unique planet has always been fecundity. Join Pegi Eyers for an empowering look, through the lens of mythology, at the sacredness of life itself.
From July 30 to August 1, the 2021 Mythologium explored this year’s theme of Myth and Healing from many viewpoints, from the foundations of the field to contemporary issues in myth.
Presentations from 50 mythologists on 18 different panels included a keynote by Dr. Dennis Patrick Slattery. Topics ranged from Mythic Healers to Healing Tales of Wonder, Healing Psyche and Soma, and many, many more. We are so grateful for the magic that this community of mythologists has created~!

European Roots: A Group To Rediscover Our Indigenous Traditions
Pegi Eyers was a guest teacher for European Roots, a virtual circle hosted by Katrina Coravos from Fall 2020 to Spring 2021. "Who were the original peoples of Europe? Our textbooks often refer to them as heathens, and barbarians. The history books will tell us that the conquering of these peoples, and these ways, was in the name of religion, and the betterment of all of humanity. We are in a time to remember who we are. Knowing thyself, has been a cornerstone of most wisdom teachings throughout time. And, as European descended people, most of us do not know where we have come from, who our ancestors are, who are our people, what our traditions are. To know where we come from, gives vision for where we are to go. Without this knowledge, our root systems are not intact, our memory, and our connection with our ancestors is severed. And for many European descended people, there is a search and a quest to find a sense of spirituality, a sense of connection with the Earth and with all living beings." Parliament of the World's Religions Toronto 2018
In 2018, our collaboration "Worldviews with Ancient Roots and Modern Understanding" was accepted from hundreds of submissions by the Parliament of the World's Religions! To present at this global event at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre with Dr. Susana Bustos, Minaachimo-Kwe, and Dr. Sharon Mijares was an incredible opportunity. I also offered a book signing and author meet-and-greet as a vendor through Queen Books within the World Marketplace, and gave a presentation with my matrifocal/labyrinth art at the Red Tent-hosted event "Spirit Soaring: Women's Art Salon." The most diverse interfaith event on the planet marked its 125-year anniversary by bringing together leaders and followers of more than 118 spiritual and secular traditions to pursue "global understanding, reconciliation, and change” in the world’s most culturally diverse city. In total, 8,324 individuals from 81 countries participated in the Toronto Parliament. Enjoy the slideshow!

ANCIENT SPIRIT RISING AT 2018 PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD'S RELIGIONS TORONTO
ANCIENT SPIRIT RISING AT 2018 PARLIAMENT OF THE WORLD'S RELIGIONS TORONTO
SHIFT FROM WESTERN MIND TO ANCESTRAL MIND
In a special 3-part WISDOM BRIDGE webinar series, Pegi Eyers shared why reclaiming ancestral mind is essential to re-rooting ourselves and falling in love with the Earth again, to revere the many elements, manifestations, and creatures as sacred, and to return to peaceful co-existence and respect for all life. To be in alignment with our own heritage is to find empowerment and actualization as a true human being. Our reclaiming process also includes the re-inhabitation of place (or getting to know the unique features of our home landscape), and we have a responsibility to embrace geo-justice and the hard work of caring for and protecting the land. Pegi spoke about how an authentic self-identity can be reconstructed from old/new earth-centered societies, using the timeless values of Indigenous Knowledge (IK) as our model. Hosted by Victoria Sage on February 20, February 27 and March 5, 2020, the recordings and accompanying materials for Shift from Western Mind to Ancestral Mind are still available >HERE< !!

LAND {CULTURE} CLIMATE
Pegi Eyers co-hosted the project LAND {CULTURE} CLIMATE with Youth Passageways in 2019, a webinar series that grew out of an initial call to discuss rites of passage in the era of climate change. LAND {CULTURE} CLIMATE became a process whereby participants explored the inner and outer territories of our changing landscapes, and engaged with questions that drew culture, initiation and climate change/emergency together. Determining the values that our culture both uplifts and undermines assists us in the work of initiation, and informs the passageways we undergo or facilitate to foster solidarity, sovereignty, and interdependence with the more-than-human world and each other. Pegi Eyers is currently serving on the Advisory Council for Youth Passageways.
